Help Documents: Web TV Configuration

  • From your "Web Home" page (as opposed to your "TV Home" page) select "Using WebTV", the second choice from the left-hand menu.

  • Choose "Dialing" from the "Settings" section of this page and press the return key.

  • Choose "Use Your ISP" from the list of choices and press the return key.

    • Read over the information on "Using Your Own ISP" and click on "Continue" at the bottom of the screen.
    • Read over the information on "Is Using Your Own ISP Right For You?" and click on "Continue" at the bottom of the screen.
    • Read over the information on "Should You Use WebTV to Connect Instead?" and click on "Continue" at the bottom of the screen.

  • At the "Use Your Own ISP" screen:
    • check the box by highlighting it and pressing return.
    • in the "Service Provider Name" field enter "islandnet".
    • in the "Login name" field enter "xxxxxx%%ppp", where "xxxxxx" is your islandnet login name.

Yes, you need both % signs, the webtv box seems to strip out the first one...

    • in the "Password" field enter your islandnet password.
    • in the "Confirm Password" field enter the same password again.
    • in the "modem dial-in number" field, enter one of the following numbers.
    • in the "backup dial-in number" field, enter one of the following numbers.
      Victoria: 380-4731
      Duncan: 715-0696
      Nanaimo: 741-8995
      Qualicom/Parksville: 468-7457

  • Click on "Done" at the bottom of the screen.

  • You should then see a dialog box similar to this:

  • WebTV will now re-connect you, but this time using islandnet rather than their own service. Watch the status dialog box to follow your progress. The procedure appears to try both the dial-in number *and* the backup number so don't be surprised when you see it dialing a second time. islandnet's dial-in number will appear on the screen as will the message "connecting to your ISP". If everything goes well you will see the WebTV logo, hear a reassuring "you've made it" jingle and then are presented with your "Web Home" page.

You may wish to setup remote mail on your WebTV terminal.

    To enable remote e-mail:
