Page Me
SynopsisUsing this gadget, visitors to your web site can send messages to your numeric or alphanumeric pager. A realtor might wish to put a "Page Me" button on a real estate listing, for example.
SetupHere is the simple form you need to create to use the PageMe gadget:
<form method=post action=/cgi-bin/pageme> <input type=hidden name=login value=LOGIN> <input type=hidden name=reply value=REPLY> <input name=message> <input type=submit value="Page Me"> </form>Replace LOGIN with your true Islandnet login name (you cannot use email aliases here). Replace REPLY with either an URL, or a file name (relative to your "www" directory). This URL or file will be displayed when the message is sent. This is all you need to do from an HTML point of view. Now all that's required is to specify your pager number and paging service provider. Rather than embedding your pager number in the form itself, the gadget will look for a special file in your root directory called "pager.id". If this file does not exist, then PageMe will display an error message. The "pager.id" file is a plain text file that contains a single line of the following format:
SERVICE-numberWhere "SERVICE" should be one of "RADIOWORKS", "CANTEL", "CANTELPCS", or "CANTEL", depending on who you get your paging service from. "number" is the PIN number of your pager (usually a telephone number). For example, if you use RADIOWORKS and your pager ID is 555-1234, your pager.id file would look like this:
RADIOWORKS-5551234BCTEL customers take note: If your pager number is seven digits long, you must prepend a single number to it (BCTEL will be able to tell you which to use 0-604 2-250). For example, if your pager number is 555-1234 and you are in the 250 area code, your pager.id file would look like this:
BCTEL-25551234If you have a numeric pager (one that can only display numbers), then you should request that users only type in a telephone number, as other text will not be displayed. If you have an alphanumeric pager (one that can display letters as well), then they can type in almost anything they want. This cannot be used with "beepers" (pagers that make noise only and have no display). Please note that this gadget limits you to a single pager per account, there is no way to have additional pager numbers. If this is desirable, please contact us for more information about extended pager services. If you have a pager that is not from RadioWorks, BC Tel Mobility, or Cantel, chances are it's from a company that resells these companies' services. If this is the case you can still use it. If you get your pager service from anywhere else, you cannot use this gadget. Contact us and we will do our best to add support for your service.
