What are Islandnet.com's modem numbers?

Victoria:380-4731
Duncan:715-0696
Nanaimo:741-8995
Qualicom/Parksville:468-7457

What else do I need to know to connect?

In addition to selecting a modem number in your local calling area, you'll need to know your account username and password.

When entering your account username into your dialup configuration you must add a "percent value" to the end of it. The exact value you add depends on whether you are using Islandnet.com, Islandhosting.com, or HighSpeedPlus.com. Islandnet.com users must add "%ppp" to their username, Islandhosting.com users must add "%ih", and HighSpeedPlus.com customers must add "%hsp".

So, for example, if your account is on Islandhosting.com and your username is "demo", the value you would actually enter for your username would be "demo%ih". This is necessary because the same modems are used to service multiple systems here, and there might be a "demo" on any one of them. Adding the "%ih" tells the modems which "demo" you are.

What speeds are supported?

All speeds from 300 baud up to 56K are supported.

Is ISDN supported?

Yes. 56K and 64K ISDN connections are supported, as well as 128K when two channels are used.

What about "shotgun" or "multilink PPP" connections?

Yes. Note that establishing multiple parallel dialup connections like this will cause dialup time to be consumed faster (twice as fast for two connections, three times as fast for three connections, and so on).

Do long distance charges apply?

If you are within local calling range of one of the above numbers, then no long distance charges apply. If you are outside of those calling areas then normal long distance charges will apply to your connections. Note that the long distance rate is based on your connection to the city listed above and has nothing to do with which places you visit online while connected.

How do I configure my specific system for dialup?

We have created several individual documents that outline (with screen shots where available) how to configure dialup connections on various platforms:
