Backup Practices

Return to the help index

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the customer to maintain their own backup copies of any and all data that they place on our servers. This includes, but is not limited to, web pages, scripts, address book entries, database contents, and so on. The backups that we do should be considered a secondary backup.

We do various types of backups:

  • Customer data is backed up to hard disk each night. The backup server is on a separate network that is not directly accessible from the Internet. We keep these backups for at least 28 days. Customers can access these backups via our File Manager.

  • Every e-mail message that arrives for a customer is archived (unless the customer disables this feature) and is stored for at least 7 days. Customers can access this archive via our webmail system.

  • Critical system data is backed up to remote backup servers at offsite locations over a secure encrypted channel.

  • Depending on their function, different servers maintain multiple local backup copies of critical files.

  • A database dump of all customer SQL databases is done each night. We keep these snapshots for at least 28 days.

  • Customers can get a copy of their files burned to a CD or DVD for $30.

Customers can restore files from backup at any time using our File Manager on the Helpdesk. In addition to managing your current file space, it also allows you to restore files from backup.

Or, if you prefer, you can contact us to have a file restored.
